  • Daily Life in the Gaza Strip

    April 24th, 2007 | Occupation | | Comments »

The situation in the Gaza Strip over the past few years has changed dramatically in some ways, while not changing at all in others. PalCast looks back to life in Gaza in 2001 with this audio report from Raphael Krafft.

From correspondent Rafael Krafft on the realities of daily life in the South of the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees live in Gaza, a twenty-five mile strip of land on the Mediterranean. Every day holds the potential for conflict, not only with the Israelis who live nearby in highly fortified settlements, but with the major Israeli military presence deployed to protect those settlers and quell protest. Over the last year, Rafael Krafft’s reporting has brought listeners up-close to the voices and sounds of Palestinian life under occupation.

Occupation and Resistance: Stories from Palestinian Homelands

    April 22nd, 2007 | Occupation | | Comments »

Individual stories are far better for communicating the reality of the occupation than reports, statistics, and speeches. PalCast re-broadcasts Sarah Olson’s documentary on agriculture and health care from 2004.

As the Christian world prepares to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ tomorrow, residents of the holy land are still waiting for peace. Palestinians are facing increased pressure from the occupation, and a continuation of Israeli policies of land confiscation, restrictions on movement, home demolitions and the denial of access to health care, education, and community. In this half hour documentary produced by FSRN correspondent Sarah Olson, we zero in on agriculture issues related to the settlements and the Wall Israel is building in and around the West Bank. We look at Palestinian access to health care and the difficulties of living through daily checkpoints and home demolitions. We hear the stories of Palestinians living in the West Bank, their experience of occupation, and what they are doing to challenge their situation.
