George Cadman of Free Radio Santa Cruz interviews Brian Avery of the International Solidarity Movement about what it was like to be shot in the face by the Israeli army and about his work with the ISM. The ISM is a group of Palestinian, Israeli and international peace activists who use nonviolent direct action in an effort to end the illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Membership is roughly 1/3 Jewish. Their work includes riding in ambulances in order to protect doctors and nurses while they save lives, monitoring checkpoints to see if people are being treated humanely and are being checked and allowed to pass in a timely manner, assisting farmers in accessing and harvesting their crops, protecting families (that are not involved in any way with terrorism) from violence and home demolition and helping to inform the world about what is happening in the West Bank and Gaza.
